In July 2017, Pakistan became the first country outside the UK to host the prestigious Leisure Leagues. The GE Group is proud to have launched Leisure Leagues in Pakistan through the hosting of two international-scale football matches in Karachi and Lahore. Eight players – Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldinho, former Manchester United star Ryan Giggs, ex-Arsenal winger Robert Pires, FIFA World Cup winner Roberto Carlos, French forward Nicolas Anelka, English goalkeeper David James, Luis Boa Morte and George Boateng came to Pakistan to compete in two seven-a-side exhibition matches. An enormous crowd turned up for these matches, showing the underlying hunger for football and the huge following football has in Pakistan. Leisure Leagues aims to discover and nurture the abundant football talent in Pakistan and provide the players of tomorrow with a platform to help support their ambitions to represent Pakistan at the international level.
